Commercial buildings located on State Line Avenue between the U.S. Post Office and Federal Building (LT29) and Union Station (LT32) demonstrate the problematic site geometries resulting from the collision of the city’s street grids with State Line Avenue. Built by Texarkana lumberman George W. Fouke, the Rialto acknowledges the skewed angle of the original town plat with stair-stepped bays that align with the street grid. This orthogonal geometry is abandoned at the south corner of the building, where a flatiron-like acute angle, parallel to the state line, is accentuated by a rounded corner with narrow windows.
