East 2nd Street, I-20 Business, is the old U.S. 80, merging on the east with Front Street in Midland. What is remarkable is that not only was a young architect of “Bud” Oglesby’s talent commissioned to design a highway-side motel, but that it is still in business, and still recognizable. The two-story administration building, its wide, low porte-cochere carried on exposed beams and slender pipe columns, presides over a collection of side-gabled, one-story wings containing the guest rooms. These surround the central parking area.
