This picturesque, tawny brick building features a polygonal tower, a stepped gable, a wraparound iron balcony, and red tile roof. The three arched bays of the fire department face the railroad tracks.
Nearby at 700 Railroad Avenue the former Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway and Abilene and Southern Railway Passenger Station (1911), now the City Hall, has rock-faced sandstone walls, bracketed eaves, and the tall curved parapets of the company’s identity. Unfortunately, all the materials have been painted white on the building’s Railroad Avenue frontage.
