Farmer's Supply Corporation (Horatio Howard Building)

This three-story hardware store is one of Floyd's most prominent landmarks and a downtown institution. Built for Horatio Howard and his partner Thomas B. Huff as a mercantile store, Farmer's Supply acquired the building c. 1920. Constructed of brick laid in American bond, the store nods stylistically to Italianate through its use of round- and segmental-arched windows and a corbeled brick cornice with a mousetooth course. Large display windows topped by prism-glass transoms define the first-floor storefront, beyond which is a large open interior offering a vast selection of home and farm goods.
