The restoration of Colonial Williamsburg in the 1930s had a tremendous influence on American architecture, but few houses were so carefully detailed as this one built for James R. and Nancy Ben Jones Morris. After Nancy Morris saw the house she wanted in a publication on Williamsburg restorations, she spent weeks in Williamsburg studying architectural features and purchasing examples of woodwork and hardware as patterns. Working with Snyder of Martinsville to adapt the design to her family's needs, she oversaw every step of the construction, landscaping, and furnishing. The result is a charming one-and-a-half-story frame dwelling that does indeed look like a Colonial Williamsburg house.
