While making references to the town's historic architecture, the architects rearranged and played with their elements to produce a Postmodern building that is in strong contrast to the earlier library (PT3). The roughly cross-shaped brick library includes columns, pediments, and parapeted gables. Color and ornamentation are introduced in the alternation of one row of light-colored bricks with twelve rows of darker ones. The three tall windows of the facade, each framed by columns and pediments, are of tinted glass set in aluminum frames. The bold and open design is a counterpoint to the old library's delicate, interior-oriented spaces. A museum of local history is included in the library.
