This two-story brick house in the Federal style retains most of its original detail and outline, although later trim, including a delightfully tiny front porch, shingled gable, and delicate bargeboard trim, tried to update it in the Victorian era. After serving as a private residence for more than 150 years, the house was deeded to the Harrison County Historical Society for use as a museum and office. Its seemingly unlikely location, far down the hill from downtown, reflects the fact that Clarksburg began on the banks of Elk Creek and gradually moved upward both east and west.
