Berdine's Variety Store, the state's oldest “fiveand-dime,” has been dispensing trinkets since 1908. Pressed metal, painted white, covers the two-story building on all four sides. The rickety awning extending over the sidewalk and the stepped, parapeted attic gable of the two-story commercial structure would make a perfect backdrop for a shootout in a wild-west movie.
