Prospector Haskell Ryder constructed what is purportedly the oldest house in town. It is a front-gable, hewn log cabin with sheet metal roofing and improvised log and frame outbuildings snuggled into a rock cliff along East Willow Creek. The poet Walter Hall and his wife Nancy later lived here and tried to promote Creede as a haven for artists, writers, and actors. The dirt road continues up the creek past ruins of mines, including the Holy Moses, 2 miles up the canyon, on a 17-mile self-guided tour of the Bachelor Historic District.
