Frederick Mountjoy and Francis Frewen headed a Denver firm that specialized in school buildings throughout the state and developed an impressive body of work in smaller towns. Their classically oriented designs are exemplified by this two-story, symmetrical school building, of beige brick and terracotta trim under a red tile roof, with one-story wings forming an I plan. The most striking feature is a pressed metal frieze, fully three feet wide, with bas-relief floral patterns and lamps of learning, rising to a cornice adorned with egg-and-dart trim, dentils, and foliate scrolled brackets. This spectacular, silvery frieze and cornice wrap all four sides of the central building and become a draped cornice on the wings.
