Snyder (1882, 4,175 feet), on the South Platte River and Union Pacific tracks, is noted for its old-time saloon, Nick's Place, the most famous bar, hamburger restaurant, and dance hall in Morgan County. Nick Dimitroff, a Bulgarian immigrant, owned and operated this bar for fifty-four years before his death at age ninety-three in 1974. A bachelor, he lived next door, where he raised the onions, peppers, and lettuce to garnish his hamburgers. Nick's is a combination of two old storefronts with pressed metal ceilings and a classic Brunswick Collender mirrored back bar.
