This elaborate, two-story brick building features sandstone quoins and an arched sandstone entry in a central bay. Brick dentils and sandstone egg-and-dart trim embellish the exterior, as do the roofline brackets and frieze. The most prominent feature is a brick bell tower surmounted by a domed cupola.
Although the fire department has moved out, the large double firehouse doors remain, as do city offices and wall maps of the mazelike mining claims, shafts, and tunnels underlying “The City of Mines.”
