The ability of period revival architects of the teens and twenties to combine successfully, and with ease, past styles is well attested to in this 19-story skyscraper. The central decorative theme is unquestionably Gothic Revival, but the medieval detailing in granite and glazed terracotta is organized in a purely classical manner. From a distance, the character of the building is established by its rooftop lantern, with its elongated round-arched windows, its terracotta paneling, and its spirelike roof.
