The McElhinney house perfectly fits the general picture of a two-story clapboard housetype found throughout much of the country in the years 1830 through 1850. Its front boasts a two-story balconied porch, behind which (on both floors) are central recessed doorways with side lights and transoms. The design is late Federal in style, accompanied by a few Greek Revival details.
