In 1892 the community received a substantial grant of $30,000 from the Carnegie Foundation to help with the construction of a public library building. The design produced is that of a flat-roofed and parapeted two-story masonry block, somewhat Richardsonian Romanesque in character. As in the courthouse, a light-colored sandstone was used for the raised basement, and the body of the building above is of dark red brick. The fact that the courthouse and the library were both built at the same time suggests that both may have been designed by the same architect.
