North Nash Street was Starkville’s first planned subdivision, developed by the East End Land Company in the 1930s. The older houses here share Tudor Revival features. Thomas H. Johnston Jr. designed six residences in the area soon after he formed his partnership with Harry W. Stevens, and builder Emery O. McIlwain was responsible for three others. Johnston’s asymmetrical Tudor design (1937) in brick at 113 N. Nash includes a central entrance-and-chimney feature with an arched opening and exaggerated keystone, tall casement windows, steep gables, false half timbering, and a hipped-roofed dormer.
