This small, white frame schoolhouse raised on a stone base built in the form of a Greek temple has a porch with a large pediment supported by four Ionic columns on the facade. Although essentially a one-room school, it is among the most unusual in Pennsylvania for its classical features and elaborate central entrance flanked by pilasters. Commissioned by Nelson P. and Rachel Ann Wheeler to honor their two deceased daughters, the building's use for the lively pursuits of school and community center contrasts with its severe appearance. A larger frame, gable-roofed two-story school lies west of the village center.
