Jahu Hunter House

Jahu Hunter, who invested in oil and timber, had this frame Second Empire mansion built facing the Warren-Franklin turnpike (now Main Street) rather than the Allegheny River, which flows behind the house. The facade is dominated by a three-story projecting tower with bull's-eye windows in the mansard roof. The first story retains its sweeping porch that wraps around three sides. A large frame barn to the east serves as a carriage house. The family offices were in the Hunter Building of 1894 adjacent to the bridge on Buckingham Street.
