To the extent that Victoria's elite built new houses in the oil-rich Great Depression decade, they built them in the west end neighborhood. Rancher John A. Donalson had San Antonio architect Smith produce this hard-edged, two-story, rock-veneer house with steel casement windows and a clay tile roof, a combination of elements associated with the San Antonio suburb of Olmos Park. Taking advantage of the slope at the rear of the property, Smith inserted the Donalson garage at basement level.
