Classical Tuscan columns, balustrades, and porticos—all of precast concrete—add class to this $3.5 million convention and special events complex. Some 30,000 square feet in a U plan include a 602-seat auditorium theater connected by a glazed gallery to meeting rooms, a banquet hall, a ballroom, and a senior center. Sited in southeast Montrose on 15 acres, the gray stuccoed building looks south, to the San Juan Mountains. A paved and planted court between the wings serves for outdoor weddings and receptions. A glass pyramid above the auditorium that glows when the pavilion is open serves as a beacon. Another cost-effective yet elegant public building by Davis is the Aquatic Center (1987), northeast corner of Rio Grande Avenue and South 9th Street, an oversize cinderblock box with a terne gable roof and a water slide and fenced sun deck on the south.
